Makotokai-Karate... is a modern full-contact Karate style that was founded by sensei Paolo Bolaffio resulting from 40 years of study of internal and external martial arts like Tai-Chi-Chuan, Baguazhang and Shotokan Karate. This style combines traditional knowledge with recent findings to render movements and techniques highly effective and to use the available force and energy in the most efficent way. Since Makotokai-Karate is based on general principles and highly versatile, anyone can practise Makotokai-Karate, irrespective of prior experience, age or gender. Continuous improvement of physical as well as mental capabilities is an integral part of the training.

We are... Makotokai Berlin e.V. and the successor to the Martial arts school Makotokai Berlin. The technical training is headed by Ilaria (4th Dan and Advanced Technical Instructor of Makotokai Karate), who has more than 11 years of experience in national and international full-contact tournaments, and Andrej, who currently holds the 1st Dan in Makotokai Karate and in Shorinji Kempo. They are supported by Oleg (1st Dan Makotokai-Karate und 2nd Dan Fudokan-Karate), Dimi (1st Dan Makotokai-Karate) und Clement (3rd Kyu Makotokai-Karate). In addition to our Makotokai Karate courses we are in regular contact with other martial arts groups and regularly take part in seminars of the Makotokai federation.

We train... at two gyms in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg and Berlin-Mitte that offer all the equipment we need to hold the lessons the way we think is best. Our Makotokai Karate courses take place two times a week. We explicitly welcome women and men, beginners as well as advanced practitioners of martial arts. Just register for a trial session and test us and yourself. All you need for our training are light sports clothes and a bit of an enthusiasm for new challenges.
